Disc Brake Conversion – Datsun 620

Front Disc Brakes

The first though most people have when looking to convert to disc brakes is “will the 1978-1979 disc brakes work on a 1972-1977 truck?” Unfortunately the answer is no. The upper control arm / shock mounts are positioned on a different angle on the 1978-1979 disc brake truck. It can be done but requires allot of modification and will not just bolt up.

As far as aftermarket conversions go there are some options. You will however have to decide if you want to convert to ball joints at the same time or keep the kingpins. When switching to ball joint it is common to swap to D21 2wd spindles/hub and running the D21 4wd 2 piston calipers.
Additionally most brake upgrades will require larger rims to clear the calipers.

Limited production – Bluehands still has a small number of disc brake kits available that will fit on stock 14″ rims.
No longer in production – Ball joint conversion. For a while bluehands inc was producing high quality ball joint conversions. You may still find a set on the used market from time to time.

Rotors: 2002 Honda passport, 2001-2004 Isuzu Rodeo, 2002-2003 Rodeo sport
Brake lines: 1988-1997 D21 (Hardbody) for 4wd, 2.4L
Bolts: 12mm bolts are required to mount the caliper to the brackets, and 10mm bolts are required to mount the bracket to the spindle assy.
